St Francis of Assisi
Rich and vain
Tall and bright
He was put to shame
But was willing to fight
Soft-hearted and kind
Doesn’t care for thought
Lost in his mind
His feelings they brought
He fell into illness
But prayed for love
He wanted to witness
The power from above
Too much to hold
Too little to hand
What he was told
Was not for any man
That one small act
Led to pure hate
Without all the fact
It was his finally fate
His mother, she cried
His father, he yelled
His friends, they lied
And Francis, he fell
He lost his wealth
He lost their love
But he had his health
That was just enough
He lived in bare
Trapped by the hate
Without all the care
He was going to wait
He love them all
Without a care
Big and small
He made everything fair
He traveled around
Helped who he could
His love, they found
If only they would
Joined by one man
Followed by more
Doing all they can
For it wasn’t a chore
Warm and bright
He changed his ways
Now full of might
Living out each day
